KaCSFFS Activites
The membership of KaCSFFS has a variety of interests, many of them overlapping with one club member taking part in any one of them or all of them. Somewhere along the way the habit was developed of giving them their own titles. So below you'll find more information about the various groups within the group that is KaCSFFS.
The SF & F Literati
The SF & F Literati meet at the Border's book store at 119th & Metcalf in Overland Park, Kansas on the fourth Monday of every month unless otherwise announced. They get together to discuss books that are agreed on in advance so anyone who's interested should hopefully have time to read the book for that month. Their upcoming scheduled books are:
The Film Cadets
The Film Cadets get together to view genre films at local theatres. Obviously it can't be quite as scheduled as something like the book discussion groups so the way it works is that when a film is released someone will pop up on the KaCSFFS Discussion List mailing list and suggest an outing, complete with date and time. Fairly often part of the group will agree on a post movie meal that the movie can be discussed over. If the release date is amenable an announcement is made at the club meeting before the outing. Sometimes a Film Cadets expedition might be because we've received passes to the special advance screenings that studios hold where the critics and members of the public get a sneak peek at a soon-to-be released movie.
The Laser Rangers
The Laser Rangers are a small group of film buffs, videophiles and home theatre enthusiasts in the Greater Kansas City area of Kansas/Missouri, USA. Most members are drawn from the membership of the Kansas City Science Fiction and Fantasy Society and Film Society of Greater Kansas City.
